Thorburn Australia has had a long association with the Korean owned Zinc Refinery in Townsville assisting with the design and construction of the $650M plant. Shane Thorburn was initially heavily involved with the development of the plant wide control system and network communications.

The overall project consisted of some 890 motors, 770 Instruments and Control Valves and 32 Major Vendor Packages all designed, installed and commissioned on time and under budget.

A truly monumental effort and a credit to the ability for all those involved to work across language and cultural divides.

Thorburn Australia recently provided the entire control system (hardware, software and commissioning) for the Plant’s $400M  Upgrade. Three new PLC’s, Remote IO with all instrumentation having pass through HART comms to allow complete configuration from SCADA!
